This course is about getting out of your head - and into the scene
"Impulse and Emotions with John Orcsik" is a training ground where you can learn how to access your true, gut-wrenching impulses, act on them, and have the freedom and confidence to feel everything that occurs in between action and cut.
The most important thing in the scene is not your backstory, your intention, or even your objective! It is your scene partner.
Often in acting, we're taught to ‘know it and then throw it'. Learn everything about the scene, and then throw it all away when the camera is rolling. This course is for intermediate actors and above who know how to break down a scene, but find themselves going through the motions (hitting the beats) when they have to put it on tape.
This course is a risk-free environment where you can jump off the deep end into the unknowing and discover moments that are so truthful, so powerful, that it would be impossible to plan them before.
This course will teach you how to be present and to trust yourself fully. By extension, you will have an undeniable and thrilling presence on camera.
WHY IMPULSE AND EMOTION?
The two factors are indistinct yet relative. How does your impulse in a single moment or multiple impulses in an entire scene impact your emotions and how does an imposed or real emotion impact on your impulses?
Further, how do we, as actors, learn to trust our impulses and surrender to our instincts and emotions in a scene? Acting is about the moment.
This course is about allowing your instincts to drive your impulses and emotions (real or imposed) to discover your character in the moment.
Impulse and Emotion trains you to bring your personal, powerful and creative elements together into a truthful, original and captivating performance - moment to moment.
This course is NOT for beginners but for intermediates and beyond.

About John Orcsik:
John Orcsik, started TAFTA on the Gold Coast in 1994. He has written, directed and performed for stage, the small screen and the silver screen and has been sharing his insights into the film and television industry with students across Australia for over twenty years.
He has performed in countless Australian film and television productions with major sustaining roles in numerous TV series and continues to work as an actor alongside his desire for mentoring new generations of performers.
John’s Film & Television credits include: Cop Shop, Neighbours, Home & Away, Casino Reef, Stingers, The Saddle Club, The Condemned, Pawno, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, and, more recently in 2021, Superwog and New Gold Mountain.
