The truthful screen actor commands the frame and uses it to their advantage.

In screen acting, truth lives in the frame and the actor who masters it becomes magnetic. This advanced course is designed for actors ready to challenge themselves, refine their on-screen presence, and take meaningful steps toward screen acting mastery.

Colin Budds with the Cast and Producers of his latest film Her Aussie Romance

Starring: Mallory Jansen, Ryan Corr, Gyton Grantley and Alinta Chidzey

Led by internationally acclaimed director Colin Budds, this intensive offers a deep dive into professional-level scene work, where simplicity, truth, and connection take centre frame. You’ll learn to harness your natural charisma, drop distracting habits, and fully inhabit a character while maintaining an authentic, camera-aware performance.

This is not an introductory course. It’s designed for actors already comfortable in front of the camera who are ready to push their craft further.

The training focuses on advanced scenework, teaching actors to break down material with clarity, identify beats and objectives, and perform two-hander scenes with emotional depth and truth. You’ll explore character development rooted in authenticity, build strong on-screen chemistry, and strengthen your connection to the camera. With an emphasis on stillness, spontaneity, and emotional presence, the work is designed to strip away performance habits and reveal your natural charisma within the frame.

Colin Budds with the cast of Romance at the Vineyard

Starring: Susie Abromeit and Tim Ross

Actors will work on contemporary two-hander scenes (2–3 pages) brought in from their own material, focusing on strong character dynamics and screen-ready storytelling. Each actor receives personalised direction and professional feedback, with scenes revisited multiple times to deepen performance choices and develop truthful, compelling work for camera.

Course Outcomes
Eliminate habits that distract or flatten your on-screen presence.
Create believable chemistry with any scene partner, even with little rehearsal.
Develop a repeatable process to analyze, rehearse, and perform scenes on-camera.
Gain a deeper understanding of how to command the frame without over-acting.
Be challenged, directed, and supported by a leading industry director.

Testimonial

“I met Colin during the 40 week course at TAFTA and  I would consider him not just one of the directors we were able to learn from, but a mentor well past my time at TAFTA.

Colin lets you find your way as an actor and that’s something I truly appreciate not just as an actor, but also as a director which is something I’m exploring now.

I have been cast by and worked with Colin outside of Class and again he allowed me the freedom to really create and embody the character the way she naturally came to me.

I wouldn’t think twice about doing more classes with Colin or Sending through Things I’m working on for some honest feedback (which he’s not shy about giving and that’s why I appreciate him so much!).

If you’re an actor or aspiring director and you’re on the fence about doing the class or not - Jump in!
The discovery and learning from script to camera work is incredible and he also just happens to be a really brilliant human!”

Anna.
