FIND YOUR OWN unique FUNNY, learn to let go of embarrassment and go all out in this Four Week comedy masterclass!

Dougie Baldwin was recently a series regular in the hilarious US Sitcom Disjointed opposite Kathy Bates (check out the trailer below!) You also may remember him from Upper Middle Bogan, as well as the more serious role of Felix Ferne in Nowhere Boys.

“I had an amazing time at Dougie Baldwin’s Sitcom Masterclass! Comedic acting classes are almost unheard of in Melbourne and this one is ahead of its time! Learning clowning techniques and various ways to create natural humour within a scene was super helpful and I would love to do a longer course with Dougie!”

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Four Weeks full of hilarious sitcom training where you will find your ‘funny’ and learn the key to acting in US Sitcoms!

For Four Weeks you will be engrossed in the world of situation comedy where you will workshop scenes from existing US sitcoms, and incorporate different exercises to unlock your own unique funny. There will be a focus on clowning* exercises to unleash your ability to play from your unique sense of pleasure, focus on the singular tool of rhythm, play with games within scenes, develop characters and most of all, try and make your scene partners laugh.

Get ready to bring everything you have learnt for the final shoot - just like on a real set!

In setting up the workshop as a regular week on set of a sitcom, students will become familiar with what is expected of them in that particular context and feel great ownership over their work.

This course is your opportunity to have fun, but also to learn how to take creative comedic risks.

Please Note: Some components of the workshop can be difficult, but it is a safe space to be silly, and if you come ready to play and take on constructive feedback you will grow as a comedic actor!

COURSE OUTCOMES:

  • Engage with your inner child! Find your fun in the scene and learn to let go of being serious!

  • Understanding of how a sitcom works from the actor’s perspective, from table read to being on set.

  • Knowledge of sitcom ‘gag’s and how to execute them effectively for maximum laffs.

  • Working on multiple scenes from an existing TV sitcom - how to show character development in comedy!

*Clowning (Def.): Not referencing the clowns you see in the circus or in horror movies, but rather getting in touch with each performers childish pleasure to play and the joy to do be bad. Think of the loveable idiots you’ve watched on TV and film: Joey from Friends, . These are clowns.

Please note: Payment plans are available - please email enquiries@tafta.com.au if you would like to set up a payment plan

AGE: 18+*

*If you are under 18 years old and would like to sign up to this course please contact enquiries@tafta.com.au for details

About Dougie:

Dougie Baldwin is known in Australia as the lead on the International Emmy-winning TV series Nowhere Boys and as a series regular on Upper Middle Bogan. In the US, Baldwin starred opposite Kathy Bates in Disjointed, Netflix’s pot-themed workplace multi-camera comedy from the creator of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre, former Daily Show head writer David Javerbaum and Warner Bros. TV. Baldwin hit WBTV’s radar when he was cast in his first American role — a series regular in the studio’s comedy pilot for CBS What Goes Around Comes Around opposite Jason Lee and Alyssa Milano. After having a busy six years working on these projects, Baldwin left Los Angeles to go study at the Physical Theatre/Clown school, Ecole Philippe Gaulier, in Paris. A school in which gave Baldwin license to explore his physical and comedic talents in a safe albeit critical environment at the feet of the legendary theatre teacher, Philippe Gaulier.

The combination of his experience on set with comedy veterans such as Chuck Lorre and James Burrows (Cheers, Friends) and his training with Philippe Gaulier, Baldwin has a keen eye for what works in comedy and can help students uncover their beautiful idiocy through focusing on sincerity, rather than trying to be funny.

TESTIMONIALS

“Dougie made the classes engaging and welcoming and I was comfortable being able to be vulnerable and to try and fail and try again in his class. As someone who has no comedic training it was not only terrifying in the best way but so much fun and I learnt so much as a performer. I would attend one of his classes again! I walked out of there happy and excited to build on the skills I had learnt and I knowing I had a fantastic time. It was great to be apart of a cohort of people who were all ready to go all in and have ultimately a great time! Definitely recommend!” ~ Emilee Collard
