ONL: Q&A with John Ruby

Want to know how to really get work in the US? Want to know what SAG/AFTRA actually means? How to stand out in a sea of actors (especially when you head to LA!) How to make your acting really be on FIRE?!

John Ruby is an actor, acting coach and Casting Professional who will be zooming in directly from Hollywood, LA! This session will run a little differently, with John providing a presentation for us before moving into a Q&A at the end of the session.

If you are thinking about working in the US, or on US shows and films - this is the session for you!

John Ruby has been an acting coach in Los Angeles for over 3 years.  He teaches with Storyteller’s Conservatory (www.storytellersconservatory.com).  John has also taught on-camera acting technique (comedy and drama) at the SAG-AFTRA Conservatory.  He was delighted to have been a guest lecturer at USC University for their commercial acting class.  With the transition to Zoom, John is happy to be working with actors all over the world.

He also created his own acting technique called F.I.R.E. Acting (www.https://www.instagram.com/realfireacting/).

John has worked in casting for over 15 years.  He started as an intern at Ulrich, Dawson and Kritzer casting and then was hired as an assistant.  After working there, he moved into commercial casting and has been a session director for almost every commercial casting director in town including:  Ross Lacy, Joe Blake, Jodi Sonnenberg, Good People, and many more.

A proud SAG/AFTRA member since 2004, John moved to Los Angeles after graduation from Northwestern University.  

John is also an actor and has appeared on such shows as PENNY DREADFUL, SPEECHLESS, SWAT, CSI, 2 BROKE GIRLS, and CASTLE.   He was the lead in the feature films SOLVER and TOUCH.

STRUCTURE:
This session will run a little different to our usual Q&A’s. John has prepared a talk that he has given at SAG/AFTRA functions in LA in the past that he will give for us, and there will be time for questions at the end.
