In this six-week course, we will work with scripts from popular genres while exploring how performance shifts across theatre, film, and fast turn-around television.

Switching between these mediums requires subtle but essential adjustments in your acting craft. Each form demands a different relationship with energy, scale, timing, and technique.

Simone Buchanan, playing Debbie in Boar.

We will begin in theatre, where performance requires a bigger, more sustained energy so the entire audience can fully experience the character. Theatre demands presence, clarity, and commitment, with performances held over longer arcs and played live in the moment.

From there, we will move into fast-paced television, where quick turnarounds, limited rehearsal time, and tight shooting schedules demand strong instincts, bold choices, and consistency. Within this realm, we will explore a range of television genres, examining how tone, rhythm, and style shift while still working under time pressure.

We will also explore film, where everything becomes smaller, more detailed, and more internal. The camera captures the tiniest thoughts, reactions, and emotional shifts, requiring precision and truth without overplaying.

Throughout the course, the focus will be on learning how to gently dial your performance up or down to suit each medium, while always staying grounded in character and story. The goal is to build adaptability, confidence, and awareness so you can walk into any audition, stage or screen, ready to deliver at a professional level.

This course will be fast, challenging, and fun, designed to stretch your skills, sharpen your instincts, and prepare you for the realities of working across multiple performance platforms.
